BANYATANK a cappella

Banyatank a cappella was formed in 2024 from some of Budapest’s prominent choral and jazz singers. The six ladies bring all the Big Questions of life, the universe and everything into their repertoire, which is as colorful as the world around us: it consists of contemporary classical, jazz and pop songs, as well as some of their own compositions. Between the songs members enjoy reflecting on how the world has gone absolutely crazy around us, and in a futile attempt at regaining a sense of control over things they make the audience sing with them as well.

The ensemble’s name also reflects on the unfulfillable expectations of society - therefore aims to reclaim the term. For those who do not speak Hungarian; banyatank refers - not so nicely - to a big bag on wheels that usually elderly women carry around while doing their groceries. Banya means witch, tank means tank used in combat.

Reclaiming is an important topic that weaves through the repertoire; reclaiming bodies, feelings, time, place in society.
